Images and video

Add photos and videos to Social9 posts, create AI images in your brand style, and check file size limits per plan and the media each network accepts.

On this page

Add photos and videos to a post, or make an image with AI, so your post stands out (and can go to networks that need media).

Which plan: All plans. File size limits depend on your plan (see below).

Where to find it#

In the Create Post window (press New post at the top of any page, or Create → Create post), the media buttons sit under the text box.

How to add a photo or video#

  1. In the Create Post window, find the media buttons under the text box.
  2. Drop your files on Drop photos or a video here, or click it to choose from your computer or phone.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish. Press Add more for more files.
  4. With several files, drag them or use the arrows to change the order. The first one leads.
  5. Type a description under each image (alt text).

Files you upload are kept in Library → Media, so you can use them again.

Click any image or video to see it full size. With several files, use the arrows (or the arrow keys) to go through them. Open original opens the file in a new tab. This works in Create, in the post preview and in Library → Media.

File types: JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF images. MP4, MOV and WebM videos.

PDFs: a PDF for a LinkedIn document post is added with the PDF button in the Add row, not here. You can upload one up to 5 MB, or paste a public link. See Options per network.

Describe your images#

Under each image there is an Add alt text box for a description. It is read out to people who use screen readers. Social9 shows a tip when an image has none.

Create an image with AI#

  1. Press Create image with AI.
  2. Describe what to show under What should the image show? For example: "A warm loaf of sourdough on a wooden counter, morning light". If your post already has text, the box starts with your post, so you can go straight on.
  3. Pick a Shape: Square 1:1, Portrait 4:5, Story 9:16 or Wide 16:9. Social9 picks a sensible one for your networks.
  4. Pick a Style: Photo, Lifestyle, Flat lay, Illustration, Minimal or Bold colours.
  5. Choose 1 option or 2 options.
  6. Press Create image (or Create 2 images). It takes up to a minute.
  7. Press Use this image, or Edit this image and say what should change, for example "Make the background white".

If it takes too long and stops, you are not charged for unfinished images.

How the AI plans your image#

Before it draws, the AI acts like an art director. It reads your post (or your description) and your brand, and plans one concrete scene that shows what the post is about, not a generic stock photo. It frames the picture for the shape you picked. For Story 9:16 it keeps the top and bottom clear, where the app's buttons sit.

AI images have no words, numbers, prices or logos in them. Put those in your post text instead.

  • If your media does not fit a network, a Fix before scheduling: note shows under the media buttons, and the post's list of things to fix includes it. Fix it or untick that account.
  • Files you upload are kept in Library → Media, so you can reuse them with Choose from media.
  • AI images use credits and have no words or logos in them.
