Writing in Public: Why Social9 Opened Up to Claude and ChatGPT With the Brakes On

Social9 now lets Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP apps plan, write and schedule social posts, with test mode, fact checks and approvals keeping people in control.

On November 4, 2026, Social9 announced that businesses can now plan, write and schedule their social media posts from Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants, with guardrails built in. The short version: your AI assistant can now do the busywork inside Social9, and a person still makes the final call on anything that goes live.

This post tells the story behind that announcement, what it means if you run social media for a small business or an agency, and how it connects to where Social9 started.

The problem with an AI that posts for you

AI assistants have quietly become the place where a lot of marketing work begins. You ask Claude for post ideas, you ask ChatGPT to turn a blog post into a LinkedIn update, and then you copy, paste, reformat and schedule it somewhere else.

Several social media tools released MCP servers during 2026 to close that gap. But there's a catch most of them glossed over. When an AI agent posts to social media, it is writing in public under your brand's name. A wrong price, a made-up statistic or an off-brand joke isn't a typo in a private doc; it's on your feed in front of customers.

So the question Social9 set out to answer wasn't "can AI write a post?" It was the one Mira Roy, VP of Growth and Strategy at Social9, says small teams ask most:

"The question we hear most from small teams is not whether AI can write a post. It is whether they can trust it to post."

What Social9 announced

Social9's MCP connection gives AI assistants more than 60 tools to work with your Social9 account. From inside the chat, you can ask things like:

  • "What should I post this week?" Social9 finds the empty days on your calendar and suggests posts with times.
  • "Turn this link into posts for LinkedIn and Instagram." It reads the page and writes a version for each network.
  • "Fill the gaps in next week's calendar." It drafts posts for the open slots on each account.

It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any app that supports remote MCP servers. Setup is one address pasted into the AI app and an OAuth sign-in, so you never hand the assistant a password or API key. Step-by-step guides live in the AI apps docs, and there are walkthroughs for Claude and ChatGPT.

The brakes: four guardrails that are on by default

The interesting part of the release isn't that an AI can reach the calendar. It's what stops it from doing damage.

  1. Test mode first. Every new AI connection starts in test mode. Posts the assistant creates are labelled, run through every scheduling check, and never sent to a network. You can watch what it would do before it can do anything real. (The docs explain permissions and test mode in detail.)
  2. You choose the scope. The account owner decides which brands an assistant can see and which actions it may take. Publishing immediately and approving posts are switched off until you turn them on.
  3. A paper trail. Each connection keeps a 90-day activity log, including the requests Social9 refused.
  4. Facts get checked. Any price, date or number that isn't in your brand's facts sheet is flagged with a "Check this" warning, and drafts are screened for phrases that make posts sound machine-written.

The same rules apply to Social9's built-in Autopilot, which runs in one of three modes: Drafts only, Approve first, or Full Autopilot. Full Autopilot can only be switched on by a person, any post that mentions a blocked word is held for approval instead of publishing, and quiet hours and a daily post limit apply to every automated post.

Posts that sound like you, not like a robot

Guardrails stop bad posts. Grounding is what makes good ones. Before the AI drafts anything, it reads your brand profile, your voice settings, your website and your best-performing past posts. It writes several drafts, scores them and keeps the strongest.

That's the same idea behind training an AI on your brand voice, which we cover in depth in our guide to AI brand voice training and in how to automate social media posts in your brand voice.

"We wanted a business owner to be able to say 'plan my week' in Claude and get posts that sound like them, with facts they can trust, and with the final decision still in their hands," said Roy.

From an "AI agent army" to an AI you can trust

This isn't Social9's first announcement about AI. In August 2025, during the public beta that began in January 2025, Social9 announced a multi-agent approach to content creation: separate AI specialists that looked at trending topics, adapted posts to each platform's quirks and wrote copy for a target audience. That release was carried by AP News, Benzinga, Barchart and the Chronicle Journal.

The 2026 announcement is the grown-up version of that idea. The agents are still there, but the emphasis has moved from "more content, faster" to "content you'd actually sign your name to": grounded in your own material, checked for facts, and gated by your rules. It's the difference between an intern who writes a lot and a teammate you trust with the company account.

What this means for you

  • Small business owners can plan a week of posts in one conversation and approve them in minutes, without becoming a social media tool expert.
  • Agencies can give an assistant access to specific client brands only, keep approvals on, and show clients a 90-day log of what the AI did.
  • Marketers already living in Claude or ChatGPT stop copy-pasting between tabs. The plan, the drafts and the calendar stay in one flow.

Frequently asked questions

What did Social9 announce in November 2026?

Social9 opened its scheduler to AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other apps that support remote MCP servers get more than 60 tools to plan a week of content, write posts in the brand's voice and place them on the calendar, with test mode, fact checks and approval rules keeping a person in control.

Can Claude or ChatGPT publish to my social accounts without asking?

Not by default. Every new AI connection starts in test mode, where posts are labelled and checked but never sent to a network. Publishing immediately and approving posts are switched off until the account owner turns them on, and every connection keeps a 90-day activity log, including requests that were refused.

Which Social9 plans include the MCP connection?

The MCP connection is available on the Individual, Team, Agency and Enterprise plans, starting at $12 per month. You connect by pasting one address into a supported AI app and signing in with OAuth, so no password or API key is shared with the assistant.

Where was the announcement covered?

The release went out on EIN Presswire on November 4, 2026 and was carried by AP News, the Detroit Free Press and IndyStar, among others. All coverage, plus Social9's logos, brand colors and company facts, is collected on the Social9 press page at social9.com/media.
