Setup
Connect in 2 minutes
One address for every app: https://app.social9.com/mcp. You sign in with OAuth, so no passwords or API keys go into Copilot.
- 1
Add the server in VS Code
Open the Command Palette, run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP and paste https://app.social9.com/mcp. Call it social9. Or add the JSON below to .vscode/mcp.json.
- 2
Start it and sign in
Start the server and allow the sign-in when VS Code asks. Sign in to Social9, pick the brands and what Copilot may do, and press Allow.
- 3
Ask in agent mode
Open Copilot Chat, switch the mode to Agent and ask. Copilot shows each Social9 tool call so you can approve it.
.vscode/mcp.json
{"servers":{"social9":{"type":"http","url":"https://app.social9.com/mcp"}}}- MCP works in Copilot Chat on VS Code 1.99 or later. Copilot Free, Pro and Pro+ can use it straight away. On Copilot Business and Enterprise, an admin has to switch on the "MCP servers in Copilot" policy, which is off by default.
- Visual Studio 17.14 and later also supports remote MCP servers with sign-in. GitHub's docs show only token-based sign-in for remote servers in JetBrains, Xcode and Eclipse, so use VS Code or Visual Studio for Social9.
- The Microsoft Copilot app (copilot.com, Windows) doesn't support custom MCP servers; it has a fixed list of connectors. Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio can use MCP servers that your IT admin sets up.

Safety
You stay in charge of what goes out
Test mode first
Every new connection starts in test mode. Copilot can draft and schedule, but nothing is sent to the networks or for approval until you switch it off.
Your approvals still apply
Posts follow the brand's Autopilot mode, approval rules, quiet hours and blocked words. Publishing right away and approving posts are off unless you tick them.
Permissions per app
Pick the brands Copilot can see and what it may do: read, create and schedule, use AI credits, publish now, approve, edit brands.
Revoke any time
See 90 days of activity for each app, remove a permission or disconnect it under Account menu → Connected apps. Access stops straight away.

FAQ
Scheduling posts with Copilot: FAQ
Can GitHub Copilot schedule social media posts?
Yes, in agent mode with an MCP server. Add Social9 to VS Code and Copilot can draft posts, find good times and schedule them in your Social9 calendar. It's handy for release notes, changelogs and launch posts.
Which Copilot plan do I need?
Any GitHub Copilot plan, including Free. If your seat comes from a Copilot Business or Enterprise organisation, your admin must turn on the "MCP servers in Copilot" policy first, because it's off by default.
Does Microsoft Copilot work with Social9?
Not the consumer Microsoft Copilot app: it has no option to add your own MCP server. Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio support MCP connectors that an admin builds for your organisation, so ask your IT team if you need it there.
Will Copilot publish posts without asking?
Not by default. New connections start in test mode, where nothing is sent to the networks or for approval. Publishing right away and approving posts are separate permissions that start switched off, and posts still follow your brand's Autopilot mode and approval rules.
Which Social9 plan includes MCP?
Individual ($12/mo), Team ($39/mo), Agency ($99/mo) and Enterprise. The Free plan can't connect AI apps. Owners, admins and editors can connect an app; approvers and viewers can't.
Does it use my AI credits?
Only when Copilot asks Social9 to write or make images, and only if you allowed AI use when you connected. A post costs 4 credits, the same as in the dashboard. Reading your calendar or scheduling posts you already have is free.
Which networks can I schedule to?
All 11 that Social9 supports: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky and Mastodon. Copilot works with the accounts you've connected in Social9.
